Recommended Independent Record Stores

Whether or not major artists will ever admit it, independent artists are what's driving music today.  Believe it or not, not every artist is born a pop star and rose to prominence by putting out a single about a day of the week.  Sure, the mainstream superstar will always sell more records music, but it's the indie musician that has the following and support that won't go away when the radio stops forcing that #1 hit down everyone's throat.  What does that have to do with the independent music store though?  Not every artist can get played on the radio or sell out Madison Square Garden.  Furthermore, you're not surrounded by visual and audio stimulation and the experience of collectors and fans of music at Amazon or Barnes & Noble.  Independent record stores are famed for spotlighting local artists, providing a place for fans of music to come in and dig for a cool find or discuss the next big thing.  Below are some of my favorite independent music stores from all over the United States.  Stop in when you can if for no other reason than for a completely different shopping experience.  Who knows, maybe you'll do all of your shopping at brick and mortar retailers from now on.
